About Me

A New Vehicle

A few years ago, my parents built a farmhouse in the country. Their new home was located on a dirt road. Regardless of the season, this road was usually hard to drive on. During periods of heavy rain at my parents’ home, the roads became extremely muddy. During times of draught at this location, the road got large potholes in it. Because of the treacherous driving conditions at their new place, my parents decided to purchase a new vehicle. They traded their midsize sedan for a large truck. On this blog, you will discover the best types of vehicles to drive on dirt roads. Enjoy!

3 Features To Look For In The Perfect Road Trip Vehicle

Road trips are great experiences that you can share with your family and friends. However, you can make the experience even better if you make sure to have the right car for your road trip. Fuel efficiency, an open roof, and cargo space are just a few features to look for in the perfect road trip car.

Open Roof

Since your road trip is going to require that you and your travel companions travel in close proximity for long periods of time, you are going to want to do everything that you can in order to make everyone as comfortable as possible. One of the easiest ways to do this is to have a car that can help alleviate the confined and claustrophobic feeling that sitting in a car for long periods of time can produce.

For this reason, convertibles are ideal for road trips. Another benefit to having an open roof is that it can help deal with the stuffiness that can build up in a car during a road trip.

However, if you want a safer vehicle if you are traveling with your family, consider avoiding the convertible and get something with a sunroof. The sunroof can provide many of the same benefits as a convertible, but without sacrificing roof strength. In addition, you can still let light into the vehicle with the sunroof without exposing the interior of the car to the elements or road noise.

Fuel Efficiency

The perfect road trip vehicle is also going to need to be quite fuel efficient. This is important because you do not really want to have to spend more money than you have to on fuel, especially when you could spend that money on having fun throughout your trip instead.

When looking for a fuel efficient vehicle, try to stay away from large trucks or SUVs because their sheer size and weight will dramatically increase your fuel costs, with some models having fuel economy in the single digits. Instead, consider a compact or hybrid, because some cars in those categories can reach 50 mpg.

Cargo Space

If you are planning on taking a road trip that is going to last more than a day or two, you will want a vehicle that can provide you with enough cargo space to hold everyone's luggage. The last thing that you want on a road trip is to end up having to stop at laundromat because you are out of clean clothes.

In order to get great cargo space, consider purchasing a hatchback. These vehicles can provide you with a large amount of storage space without forcing you into a large SUV or truck that will have lower fuel efficiency.

However, consider avoiding sportier hatchbacks that have sloping roof lines. Those slopes can decrease the amount of available storage space, while also limiting headroom in the vehicle for taller passengers.

Contact local car dealers like Western Avenue Nissan in order to discuss the many great road trip vehicles available to you. A great road trip vehicle will have an open roof, lots of cargo space for luggage, and be fuel efficient.
